Great news regarding our facility and our funds!! Many of you are familiar with our mission to provide a home-like environment for all of our dogs and cats for the ones on their way to new homes and for the ones who are unadoptable and remain at the sanctuary. Our Covid years made us rethink some of our facility and how we do adoptions. While many of our plans were in the works, it solidified how we need to do our work going forward and how we needed to change.
There will always be dogs and cats that are not adoptable and we need to provide for them and not warehouse them for the rest of their lives. And dogs who are adoptable need to be in a home and not kennel run. However, our house was limited in space, although it had become, by default, the dog house.
Our solution at the house: We are increasing with two additions. 1) We are building a senior dog room for dogs more than 10 years old. 2) We are building on an adoption space, which will include an adoption room for adoption visits and a space for the adoptable dogs to live in the home as an extension of the kitchen, which already serves as a major dog space. In the kennel, all of the sanctuary dog spaces will be expanded and clustered so that dogs live in a “neighborhood” of heated and air conditioned buildings with great big yards, as opposed to off a hallway of noisy kennels.
We have raised $200,000 toward this project and are raising additional funds to build a small, two dog building, which will complete our sanctuary dog neighborhood. At the end of the year, we had a matching gift made by the Garvey Foundation to help fund these projects and our supporters came through and doubled the match. You all are amazing. Let the building begin!
